Accessibility and Accommodation
Minnesota Brass Incorporated (MBI) is committed to providing equitable access to its programs, services, activities, and employment opportunities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Minnesota Human Rights Act, and applicable state and local accessibility requirements.
MBI affirms that there is a place for everyone within the organization—as a performer, administrator, staff member, volunteer, or audience member—and is committed to creating an inclusive environment that respects the dignity, independence, and participation of persons with disabilities.
Participation opportunities within MBI extend beyond performance and include administrative, instructional, volunteer, and governance roles, allowing individuals to engage with the organization in ways that align with their abilities, interests, and access needs.
Reasonable Accommodations
MBI will make reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to support participation in programs, employment, volunteering, and attendance at public events, unless doing so would fundamentally alter the nature of the activity or create an undue hardship.
Examples of reasonable accommodations may include, but are not limited to:
- Modification or provision of equipment to support physical access or participation
- Adjustments to rehearsal logistics or scheduling when feasible
- Assistance with navigation of rehearsal or performance spaces
- Alternative means of participation in non-performance roles
Requests for accommodations are reviewed on an individual, case-by-case basis in collaboration with the individual making the request.
Facilities and Physical Access
MBI conducts rehearsals and performances in rented or outdoor spaces, including public schools, churches, performance venues, and community sites. MBI will make reasonable efforts to ensure that all rehearsal and performance facilities used by the organization:
- Meet applicable ADA accessibility standards;
- Provide accessible routes, entrances, and seating where required;
- Offer accessible restrooms when facilities are under MBI’s control or influence.
When activities take place in facilities not fully under MBI’s control, the organization will work with venue partners to identify accessibility features, address known barriers, and communicate relevant access information to participants and audiences.
Communication and Access Information
MBI is committed to clear communication regarding accessibility. Information about accessibility features, accommodation requests, and access-related questions will be made available through appropriate channels, including direct communication with staff and published event information when applicable.
MBI encourages individuals to communicate access needs in advance to ensemble directors or the Executive Director when possible, while recognizing that needs may also arise unexpectedly. Questions or requests for reasonable accommodation should be submitted to director@mbiarts.org.
While the physical demands of the marching arts are significant, MBI remains committed to fostering an organizational culture that is welcoming, respectful, and inclusive, and to identifying meaningful ways for individuals of all abilities to engage with and contribute to the organization.
