Making the Decision to Audition: What to Expect

Who We Are: MBI Indoor Percussion is a professional indoor percussion ensemble comprised of the passionate and highly experienced youth and young adults ages 22 and under from the upper Midwest region. MBI Indoor Percussion competes through local and national circuits in the Percussion Independent World Class of competition.

What We Do: MBI Indoor Percussion holds formal auditions annually, open to youth and young adults with experience and a world-class dedication to the marching arts. Selected members for the season will rehearse, perform, and create iconic productions together, meeting weekends throughout the winter months and culminating in WGI World Championships in April.

How We Move: Selected members for the season will participate in weekly rehearsals, physical training, and individual instrument training both in person and through virtual learning activities, striving for the highest level of excellence in the marching arts tradition. Successful auditionees are self-driven, responsible, highly ambitious, and ready for a high-intensity, high-passion growth experience.

The Process: Auditioning With MBI

The MBI Percussion Indoor audition process is comprised of three primary phases, at the conclusion of which the upcoming season membership contracts will be awarded:

1.) Following registration opening for the current season, registered auditionees will have access to the current season technique and exercise packet, containing a wide range of skill sets and education on what to confidently prepare for the formal audition. In addition, packets will include information for submitting a video audition if necessary.

*Please note: Auditionees for MBI are held to the same high standards for communication, preparation, maturity, and quality of performance. In preparing for your audition, please communicate openly and frequently with MBI staff on any questions or additional support needed for success! *

2.) The 2027 audition sessions kick off with the September 19th-20th Audition Experience, which is both an introductory chance to meet with the 2027 instruction team as well as get direct feedback and education for continued development and audition preparation.

3.) Following the audition experience, auditionees and those who submit video auditions will receive updates on audition status during or immediately following the audition experience weekend.

*Please note: Select auditionees may receive a ‘call-back’ to prepare additional skills to demonstrate at an additional call-back audition.
