2027 Video Audition Information

MBI is accepting video auditions for the 2027 season from all performing sections. If you have purchsed and completed registration, however, are absolutely unable to attend all or part of the Sept 19th-20th Audition Expereince Weekend, review the steps below to submit a video audition.

Final Video Submission Deadline: 12pm noon on Friday, Sept 18th.

Video Submission Steps:

1.) Ensure you have purchased the 2027 audition packet, as well as completed registration in full.
2.) Record your audition video according to the criteria below.
3.) E-mal membersip@mbiarts.org with a link to your video.

Notes for a Successful Recording:

  • Use a camera that records a minimum resolution of 1080p with the best video/audio quality possible.
  • (smartphones work fine)
  • Make sure a metronome is audible.
  • Frame your image wide so your whole body is visible (head to toe).
  • Use good lighting.
  • If possible, try to record your video in an environment with good acoustics and minimal background noise.

Mallet Percussion

  • Inside mallet octaves major scales C, D, E at 118bpm
  • 2 mallet dirt major scales f#, g#, a# at 118bpm
  • Alternating 3A at 108bpm

Rhythm Percussion

  • Dirt (once through) one rep at 118bpm one rep at 128bpm
  • Parm and accent parm one rep at 118bpm

Electronics/Synth Keyboard

  • Octaves major scales C, D, E at 118bpm
  • 2 mallet dirt major scales f#, g#, a# at 118bpm
  • Alternating 3A at 108bpm

Video Audition Criteria: Batterie/Visual

All Batterie Sections:
Include a sample of your marching and playing abilities (forward and backward,
side-to-side marching)

Snares and Tenors

  • Stick Control & Euro Fade at the marked tempos
  • 2 reps triplet grid @ 140 bpm
  • 2 reps sixteenth note grid @ 120 bpm

Bassline

  • Video 1-
    • 2 reps 8th note short short long mezzo forte @ 144bpm
    • 2 reps triplet short short long mezzo piano @ 144 bpm
    • 2 reps triplet short short long piano @ 180 bpm
  • Video 2 –
    • 2 reps triplet grid @ 140 bpm
    • 2 reps triplet grid accents only @ 140 bpm
    • 2 reps 16th note grid @ 120 bpm
    • 2 reps 16th note grid accents only @ 120 bpm
